  • Sterling A. Brown wrote a monthly series of critical reviews, The Literary Scene: Chronicle and Comment, in Opportunity Magazine. Brown wrote the series for almost ten years.

  • The groundbreaking satirical novel, Core CollectionBlack No More by George S. Schuyler, was published.

  • James Lesesne Wells won the Harmon Gold Medal for his expressionistic painting, “Flight into Egypt.”
