Wow! Very cool App! What if we could build a version of this so that library users could use their camera to scan a bar code from the online catalog (or select a title from our catalog app) and have arrows show where to find the book/media? Or have events on our calendar be mapped to rooms? Or add this as a function to our catalog app to help find the nearest (or alternative) neighborhood libraries?

That is super-cool Ian, thanks for posting. I like your ideas for library use. First we need to get the catalog to reflect reality! If I had $1 for every time someone came in saying “your catalog says you have this book” only to have the book be missing…

Tony – why not redirect your energy to being positive and actually doing something about the things that you feel are deficient? Just a thought.

I do “actually do something” about the things I feel are deficient. At the moment, I spend almost all my “off-desk” time working with the collection at my branch, trying to make what’s on the shelf match what’s in the catalog.
As for positivity, as I said, Ian’s idea is a great one. But first the catalog fix needs to be finished (and I’m really liking the purges that have happened and are planned) so that those arrows Ian suggested don’t lead to dead ends.

Tony – actually I was hoping you might find something where you could make a positive contribution by becoming a team member, contributing work, and accepting/respecting the contribution of others instead hanging back and writing lengthy criticisms of almost everything in the library. Is there anything at all here you like that you might want to build up? It’s harder, I know, but ultimately better than just throwing stones and being so negative.
